Somatic Trauma Resolution (STR) therapy is a client centered approach that facilitates healing of both shock-trauma and developmental-trauma.  STR is relatively short term yet highly effective. STR therapists define trauma as anything that has been overwhelming to your nervous system.  Symptoms may result from a wide range of experiences including accidents, injuries, emotional or physical shock, abuse, violence, sexual assault, invasive surgical procedures, loss/grief, or even birth. Somatic Trauma Resolution therapy can be used as an effective way to prevent chronic problems from developing as well as a way to release chronic issues once dysfunction has set in. A few STR sessions after an accident for example, can save years of psychotherapy, chiropractic, and drugs. You don’t have to wait until Post-Traumatic Stress has set in. Basic STR skills, are helpful to everyone wishing to heal an over loaded nervous system.

Keys to this therapeutic process involve developing resources, tracking sensations, and establishing healthy boundaries.  The client learns how to self regulate his/her nervous system through the careful guidance of the STR therapist, thus increasing physical and emotional resiliency.

This episode brought to you by Wellness Works

As you are guided to become curious about sensations in the body, neural pathways begin to open; held shock/trauma energies can begin to discharge from the nervous system one manageable step at a time.  These energy discharges are often experienced physically through such sensations as temperatures fluctuations, tingling, shaking, etc.  Titration, allows plenty of time and space for the nervous system to heal and reorganize in a way that feels safe and empowering.

You may schedule appointments in Emily’s Santa Monica office or for out of area clients, I offer sessions by phone or SKYPE.

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation
but I find this matter to be actually something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

I completely understand this approach; would highly recommend it for myself. I believe there are many types of therapeutic approaches all depending on the client; finding an individual approach that meets the needs of each client. My only question is how much is it session; can we use our medical insurance to cover distance counseling?
